Exercise to improve

An exercise is a powerful learning tool. It lets the participants test and develop roles and responsibilities, technical functions, resources and logistics, administrative processes and any other resources that the crisis and continuity plans encompass. All exercises end with a debriefing and an evaluation, after which a list of recommendations is produced, outlining how our client can address shortcomings and improve plans, routines and capabilities.

Plan and conduct an exercise

To ensure that our exercises have the desired effect, we always work with clear and measurable goals, defined in close cooperation with our clients. Based on the objectives of the exercise a scenario (a series of fictive events) is then developed. The scenario serves to present the participants with a realistic replica of the real world.

Desktop exercise

A desktop exercise involves a small group of participants seated around a table to discuss, in slow-time, their response to a specific scenario. Through a considered exchange of thoughts and points of view, participants can quickly gain an insight into how their existing structures and processes would be used to respond to a real incident. This type of exercise is particularly well suited to testing areas in which an organisation needs to develop further plans, policies or processes

Simulation exercise

A simulation exercise seeks to create a situation as close to an actual event as possible, a dress rehearsal if you like. This form of exercise is effective because it is possible to practice stressful situations in real time. Simulation exercises provide an opportunity to evaluate performance against specific criteria or objectives, so helping an organisation to understand its readiness to respond to a major incident.
